What Medicare Doesn’t Cover and How People Are Filling the Gaps

Medicare provides valuable health coverage for millions of Americans, but it does not cover everything. One of the most common misconceptions is that Medicare covers all medical expenses. In reality, Original Medicare, which includes Part A and Part B, leaves several areas uncovered.

For example, Original Medicare does not typically cover:

    • Routine dental care, including cleanings, fillings, and dentures
    • Vision services, such as eye exams for glasses or contact lenses
    • Hearing aids and most hearing-related exams
    • Long-term care, such as extended stays in nursing homes
    • Most care received outside of the United States

So, what options do beneficiaries have?

One option is enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan which may include a Prescription Drug plan.
